Abstract
We report the detection of linear optical diffraction of a He-Ne laser probe beam from a monolayer grating of molecular adsorbates up to the fifth order with no electronic or electromagnetic enhancement. The advantages of using linear diffraction to probe surface diffusion of adsorbates are discussed.
