Summary
Pelvic fractures are often difficult to evaluate by conventional tomography due to the complex bony structures of the pelvis. Axial CT scans clearly show the extent of the fracture, location and size of fragments. Abnormalities of the hip joint space, like loose bone fragments are easy to demonstrate. Furthermore the biomechanically important injuries of the sacroiliac joint and sacrum are more often detected by computed tomography.
