Summary
Dogs with a diabetes mellitus (post-pancreatectomy) lasting at least 5–10 years become ill with a chronic, nonspecific glomerulonephrosis. Diabetic angiopathy is not evident. In the muscles and in the remaining pancreas there are cytosegresomes, and crystalline deposits are evident in the renal tubular basement membrane. Since in the long-term studies, as in the majority of the short-term studies, a nodular glomerulosclerosis did not develop, it is assumed that in these animal experiments the cause necessary for the development of the tissue changes described byKimmelstiel andWilson was inactive or absent.
