Summary
A study has been made of clinically treated cases of overbreathing syndrome in 13 children. The literature has been reviewed. The clinical symptomatology of the different types of this syndrome has been analysed. The criteria of diagnosis and differential diagnosis have been discussed. The complexity of treatment is pointed out.
Zusammenfassung
Das funktionelle Atmungssyndrom wird als charakteristisches Beschwerdebild funktioneller Störungen an Hand von 13 klinisch behandelten Kindern (8 Mädchen und 5 Jungen) besprochen. Emotionale Faktoren (Angst, Erregungszustände, Erwartungsspannung) stehen ursächlich im Vordergrund. Die bunte Beschwerde- und Befundsymptomatik, die das Kernsymptom der Atemstörung überlagern und maskieren, wird detailliert wiedergegeben. Neben der typischen akuten Form mit den oft dramatischen Hyperventilationsanfällen, die nur ausnahmsweise (bei einem Kind) zu tetanischen Erscheinungen führten, wird das häufigere Vorkommen chronisch larvierter, unterschwelliger Verlaufsformen hervorgehoben. Der augenblickliche Stand des Wissens über die funktionellen Störungen der Atmung wird im Zusammenhang mit einer Sichtung des Schrifttums aufgezeigt und die Notwendigkeit einer mehrdimensionalen Therapie, bei der medikamentöse Maßnahmen im Hintergrund stehen, betont.
