Mafic minerals from Punta delle Pietre Nere subvolcanites (Gargano, Southern Italy): Their petrological significance

Mafische Minerale aus den Subvulkaniten der Punta delle Pietre Nere (Gargano, Süd-Italien) und ihre petrologische Bedeutung

Summary

Olivines, amphiboles and micas from Punta delle Pietre Nere melasyenites and melagabbros have been analysed by electron microprobe. The analytical data integrated with those relative to the previous studied pyroxenes are here considered to draw some petrological inferences. The mineral compositions suggest that (i) the two subvolcanic bodies derived from diverse parental liquids, (ii) the magmas intruded at shallow depth as a mush of liquid plus crystals and (iii) the magmas crystallized under highf O 2 conditions.

The mineral compositions reflect that of the liquids from which they crystallized as well as the order of mineral crystallization.
