Abstract

Results from ESR experiments on atomic selenium vapour in the 3P2 ground state are given. The observed g-value and hyperfine constant of the 77Se isotope are 1.49137(4) and 545.7(5) MHz, respectively.

A calculation of g-values based on the Russell-Saunders coupling scheme and taking configuration interaction to second order into account, is applied to p2 and p4 configurations. The results for Se, Te, Ge and Sn show good agreement with experiment.
