Abstract

The absorption spectrum of a high-pressure sodium discharge has been measured between 450 and 850 nm. The experimental spectrum is in good agreement with a spectrum calculated using quasi-static line-broadening theory in conjunction with ab initio computations of Na2 potential curves The good agreement confirms the ab initio 3+u and 3Πg potential curves.
