Abstract

Two new activities have been found in the neutron deficient isotopes of krypton produced by [p, xn] reactions on bromine. The half-lives have been determined as 12·0 ± 1·0 min and 5·5 ± 0·4 min. These activities are assigned to 74Kr and 75Kr respectively on the basis of their genetic relationships with bromine isotopes.

The isotope 74Br has been observed to emit a positron with a maximum energy of 4·7 MeV and the half-life of this isotope is 25·7 ± 0·9 min.

The three most recent values were 73.5 (11) min (Houdayer, 1974), 75 (3) min (Baskova, 1973), and 74.7 (7) min (Borchert, 1971), respectively. However, another value of 71.1 (5) min reported by Butement (1960) was more precise, but not included in the evaluators’ averaging procedure, owing to the obvious difference by comparison with the values clustered around 74 min. The large discrepancy (∼4%) between the evaluated value 74.4 (6) and the precise value 71.1 (5) min aroused our interest in investigating the 77Kr half-life.
