Hyperfine structure, quadrupole moment and core polarization in the As I spectrum

Abstract

The transitions λλ 286.0, 278.0, 274.4 and 234.9 nm from 4p25s to 4p3 in As I were investigated by optical interference spectroscopy. With the help of new theoretical fs and hfs analyses the quadrupole moment could be determined in each configuration, yielding a mean value of Q(75As) = +0.30(5)b. For the core polarization in 4p3 acp = -1.2(2) mK was evaluated, equivalent to a magnetic field of -1.7(3) T per 4p-electron spin, which is consistent with the fields in Ga 4p and Br 4p5.
