Topology of the invariant manifolds of period-doubling attractors for some forced nonlinear oscillators

Abstract

A numerical investigation of the spatial structure of some continuous dynamical systems undergoing period doubling reveals the twisted nature of the invariant manifolds of the attractors. The number of these twists for the nth periodic attractor before bifurcation is [(3m + 2)2n−1 + (−1)n−1]3 with m twists for the first attractor at birth.
