Abstract

The effect of magnetic fields H on the reentrant transition temperature T_RSG of Fe_xMn_1−xTiO₃, with x = 0.60, 0.6 5 and 0.75, has been investigated. It is shown that T_RSG changes with H in a rather complicated manner. However, in a high field region, T_RSG can be described by a power function of H.

Studies on Magnetic Properties of MnTi<inf>1-x</inf>Nb<inf>x</inf>O<inf>3</inf>System

Synthesis and characterization of electrical and magnetic properties of ilmenite phases of the type MnTi_1−xNb_xO₃have been carried out. Single phase materials could be obtained for 0.0≤x≤0.25. The electrical conductivity increases with increasing Nb content. Magnetic susceptibility studies show that the phases exhibit 2D antiferromagnetic behavior. The magnetic susceptibility data has been analyzed using Fisher's specific heat to determine the long range ordering temperature.

Effect of magnetic fields on phase transitions in the exchange competing system Fe_xMn_1−xTiO₃ with x = 0.60, 0.65 and 0.75, which exhibit the reentrant spin-glass transition from the antiferromagnetic state in weak fields, has been investigated by measuring the magnetization process in pulsed magnetic fields. The spin-flip-like transition (metamagnetic transition) is observed at 4.2 K for each sample. The critical field of the transition decreases monotonically with the increase of temperature and this transition vanishes above the Néel temperature. The field variations of the reentrant spin-glass transition and Néel temperatures have been also observed. From these observations the field-temperature phase diagram is determined for each of these reentrant spin-glass samples. The shape of the phase diagram is qualitatively consistent with the theoretical prediction given for Ising systems exhibiting the reentrant transition from the antiferromagnetic state.
