Abstract

The processes which produce detectable radiation in the scanning electron microscope are well documented. Luminescence produced by electron bombardment is called catholuminescence and has been used in this study to examine different cell types from mouse vaginal epithelium. The natural cathodoluminescence of cells was compared both with the emissive and backscattered mode and with cathodoluminescence of the cells after their exposure to the drug quinacrine. The interpretation of cathodoluminescent effects associated with biological specimens is briefly discussed.
