The essential information required for the design of an effective vacuum chamber and vacuum system to be used in an electromagnetic isotope separator assembly, is presented. The effects of residual pressure on isotopic contamination and on beam oscillations are discussed. Methods for calculation of the pumping requirement and representative pumping equipment is described.
