Abstract

Angular distributions have been measured of asymmetries produced by vector polarized deuterons scattered by ¹²C at 20.5, 25.2 and 29.5 MeV. The absolute normalization has been performed by comparison with the d-⁴He elastic scattering at 15 MeV.

A precision polarimeter for 5-12 MeV deuteron beams
1980, Nuclear Instruments and Methods
A polarimeter which simultaneously measures the vector and tensor moments Re(it₁₁), t₂₀, Re(t₂₁) and Re(t₂₂) of a 5–12 MeV deuteron beam is described. The polarimeter uses the ³He(d, p)⁴He reaction as the polarization analyzer. The polarimeter analyzing powers T₂₀ and T₂₂ are calibrated against the ¹⁶O(d, α₁)¹⁴N reaction and the iT₁₁ and analyzing powers are calibrated against the ¹⁶O(d, α₃)¹⁴N reaction. With the present calibration, the beam polarization moments may be measured to 2% for beam energies from 5–10 MeV.
