Abstract

The excitation energy Eexc of the second excited state in 6Li has been measured by recording the de-excitation γ-rays from the 6Li(p, p′)6Li (3.56 MeV) and 9Be(p, α)6Li (3.56 MeV) reactions. The γ-ray spectra have been recorded at supplementary angles with respect to the direction of emission of the recoil 6Li nuclei and a method has been developed to determine Eexc with an error of ≲ 1 keV. The weighted average of the two measurements is Eexc = (3562.9±0.6) keV.
