Abstract

A method for the area determination of spectral components is presented. A combination of filtering and cross correlation with a trial function is used to achieve intensity estimates comparable in precision to those obtainable with least squares analysis for the case of a known background. In the presence of a background of unknown or partially unknown form, the accuracy of the present method is better than that realized with least squares analysis. The method is demonstrated and applied to derivation of a new set of intensities for prominent transitions associated with the 14N(n,γ)15N reaction.
