Abstract

A facility for investigation of polarization phenomena of fast neutrons using polarized beams accelerated by the 88″ cyclotron at Texas A&M University is described. Details are presented on a high-pressure cooled-gas target, a low-background experimental area, a liquid-helium polarimeter, a set of spin-precession magnets and other instrumentation. A multi-parameter method of acquiring polarization data and techniques for discriminating against background and improving resolution in the processing of such data are discussed. Formulas useful in the analysis of such data to extract polarization observables are presented.
