Abstract

The single-electron detection and timing properties channel-plate electron multipliers have been studied by means of a double magnetic lens β-spectrometer. It is shown that two-channel plate electron detectors have a good efficiency not only at low energies (<50 keV) but also at high energies (>150 keV). Their timing and stability properties also compare very favourably with scintillation detectors, particularly at low energies.
