Abstract

A three-crystal, Ge(Li)NaI spectrometer has been developed to measure neutron capture γ-ray spectra at the Livermore 100 MeV electron linear accelerator. Design criteria are discussed. Circuits and techniques to optimize performance in an electron linac environment are presented. Some useful data analysis techniques for extraction of peak energies and intensities are given. A technique is discussed for using the simple response function of a three-crystal spectrometer to unfold unresolved data to find the incident gg-ray spectrum.

The XRF spectrum of copolymer 8 showed peaks due respectively to Pt Kα, P Kα, and S Kα at 9.38, 1.97 and 2.23 keV respectively (Supplementary information Fig. S5) [12]. These values are also in excellent agreement with the theoretical values [11] and confirm the presence of Pt and P in the polymer matrix. These XRF data also support the argument that the phosphine complex 8 with bis-EDOT units is incorporated intact into the copolymer.

Another spectrum was obtained at the Brookhaven High Flux Beam Reactor. The γ-rays were detected with a three-crystal (Ge(Li)-NaI) pair spectrometer [12]. This measurement was devoted to the study of the 158Gd(n, γ) reaction.
