Abstract

A heavy liquid miniature bubble chamber (BIBC) is described and its use for the search of short-lived particles discussed. With conventional optics bubble densities up to 300/cm for minimum ionizing particles and bubble sizes of 25 μm with good optical contrast in dark field were reached. A collaboration Bern-CERN-St. Louis has sucessfully tested BIBC with in-line holography resulting in 8 μm bubble size and 9 cm depth of field. The possibility to construct a small holographic bubble chamber with high magnetic field is conjectured.
