Abstract

The timing properties of an intrinsic Ge detector with a surface of 19 cm2 and of a 70 cm3 Ge(Li) diode have been studied. The dependence of the timing signals of each detector on the γ-ray energy has been tested with a 60Co source, whereby a conversion into X-rays of appropriate converters was used for Eγ < 115 keV. At low energies there was a strong difference in the timing behaviour for full-energy lines and for Compton radiation with the same energy, which must be taken into account in the determination of level half-lives around 1 ns from γ,γ delayed coincidence measurements.
