Abstract

The elastic and inelastic angular distribution of protons scattered from Ne20 are measured at ten bombarding energies in the range 5.20–6.23 MeV.

The shape of the inelastic angular distribution curves does not change appreciably with the energy, although the value of the cross-section suffers important variations. The elastic and inelastic scattering excitation functions vary with the energy in a compensating manner, the increase of the elastic cross-section being accompanied by a decrease of the inelastic cross-section and conversely. The experimental data are explained qualitatively in the light of Yoshida's direct interaction theory, which takes into consideration the coupling between the reaction channels.
