Abstract

A phoswich array consisting of 48 ΔE - E elements with sufficient granularity (ΔΘ = ± 2.5°) to handle high multiplicity events has been built and used in several experiments. The full angular coverage is a 35° × 35° square cross section of the 4π sphere. Unit charge resolution for Z ≤ 10 and mass resolution for Z = 1 particles has been achieved with a ±5% energy resolution. Experimental details and the performance of the array are presented and discussed.
