Large variation in the backward angles analyzing power of the pd → tπ+ reaction around 1 GeV

Abstract

The analyzing power angular distributions have been measured for the $p d → tπ^{+}$ reaction at 900, 1000 and 1100 MeV. At backward angles the analyzing power varies rapidly with energy, an effect which can be traced back to a simple variation of the amplitudes with energy.

Angular distributions of cross sections and analyzing powers for the reaction pd → tπ+ at 425, 450, 475 and 500 MeV

Analyzing powers and cross sections for the reaction $p d → ttπ^{+}$ have been measured at large pion center-of-mass angles at 425, 450, 475 and 500 MeV incident proton energies. The cross section and analzing power angular distributions cover the range 110° ⩽ θ_CM(π⁺) ⩽ 160°. The results are compared with theoretical calculations which include one- and two-nucleon exchange and meson exchange involving two or three nucleon vertices.
Deuteron tensor analyzing power for the collinear dp → 3Heπ0 reaction at intermediate energies

The differential cross section and tensor analyzing power T₂₀ for $p(d p →^{3} He π^{0}$ have been measured in the forward and backward directions at 19 energies between 500 MeV and 2.2 GeV. Significant structure in T₂₀ at 180° is related to the observed anomalous proton analyzing power. The large negative T₂₀ measured at low energies confirms that the capture of stopping pions on isoscalar nucleon pairs in ³He is about an order of magnitude stronger than for isovector pairs.
Production of light mesons in P + D reactions

Recent progress in our understanding of $pd →^{3} He π^{0} up to 2.5 GeV$ is reviewed. The main contributions are known but the calculations do not reproduce details of the observables even in the Δ peak. The experimental data on neutral meson production at threshold up to the Φ(1020) is discussed. The measured high counting rate of η's provides a nice opportunity to study rare and forbidden η decays by the easy ³He tagging.
