Spin correlation parameter Axxand Ayy measurements in p-p scattering at 37.2 MeV

Abstract

The measurements of A_χχand A_yy, the spin correlation coefficients in proton-proton scattering made at Saclay in the lab energy range of 11 to 26 MeV have been extended to 37 MeV with the same experimental techniques. Comparison of the results with the predictions of the energy dependent phase shift analysis of Livermore shows a very good agreement for A_yy but a significant deviation (≈2.4 standard deviations) for A_χχ.

Measurements of the spin correlation parameters A<inf>xx</inf> and A<inf>yy</inf> for p-p scattering at 46.9 MeV

The A_xx and A_yy spin correlation coefficients of proton-proton scattering have been measured at E_lab = 46.9 MeV and θ_c.m. = 90° with the same experimental techniques already used at Saclay from 11 to 26 MeV and at Grenoble at 37.2 MeV. For A_xx the deviation from the predictions of the energy-dependent phase-shifts analysis of Livermore is significant (≈ 3.7 standard deviations) but not as large as for the 47.5 MeV Tokyo measurement. For A_yy the agreement is very good.
Analysis of the Kantor amplitudes and recent low-energy proton-proton scattering experiments

The behaviour of the ³P₀ phase shift for proton-proton scattering in the energy range 25–50 MeV is discussed. It is shown that theoretical analysis of the Kantor amplitudes predicts a larger ³P₀ phase shift than the experimental value currently accepted. The existing experimental data are examined by means of a phase-shift analysis to see how the individual spin-correlation data affect the ³P₀ phase shift.
