Abstract

We supply new spectroscopic data on ⁶²Co. Until now only the existence of a ground state doublet has been known and assumptions regarding the spin assignments have been made. By means of the (d, α) reaction performed with 15 MeV deuterons on the ⁶⁴Ni target nucleus we have determined excitation energies up to about 2.8 MeV as well as spins of several levels. Estimates about the configurations of the strongly excited levels are made. Furthermore a possible correction to the only roughly known Q-value is suggested.

Nuclear Data Sheets for A = 62
2012, Nuclear Data Sheets
Experimental nuclear spectroscopic data for known nuclides of mass number 62 (Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ga, Ge) have been evaluated and presented together with adopted properties of levels and γ rays. New high-spin data are available for ⁶²Ga, and ⁶²Zn. Results of in-beam γ-ray studies for ⁶²Cu producing high-spin states are in conflict in terms of gamma-ray placements and branching ratios. In the opinion of the evaluators, a detailed study of high-spin structures in ⁶²Cu is needed to obtain a consistent and confident level scheme. Precise studies of superallowed β decay of ⁶²Ga to ⁶²Zn by several groups have extended the decay scheme. No significant new data, since the 2000 NDS for A = 62 (2000Hu18), have been reported for ⁶²Co, ⁶²Ni and ⁶²Cu. No data are yet available for excited states in ⁶²Ti and ⁶²V, and those for ⁶²Cr and 62Ge are scarce. The level lifetime data are available in very few cases. The radioactive decay schemes of ⁶²Ti and ⁶²Ge are unknown, and those for ⁶²V, ⁶²Cr and 92-ms ⁶²Mn are scantily known. The data presented here supersede those in the earlier NDS publications.

The 1989 evaluation of A=62 (1990Ki08) has been revised using available experimental decay and reaction data since the last evaluation. In this evaluation there are some new data and reactions, such as T_1/2 for ⁶²Cr, ²⁰⁸Pb(⁶⁴Ni, Xγ) for ⁶²Fe, ⁶⁰Ni(α, ²He) and ⁶⁰Ni(¹²C, ¹⁰C) for ⁶²Ni, ⁵⁰Cr(¹⁶O, 3pnγ) for ⁶²Cu, ⁶⁰Ni(¹²C, ¹⁰Be) and ⁴⁰Ca(²⁸Si, α2pγ) for ⁶²Zn, and ⁴⁰Ca(HI, Xγ) for ⁶²Ga, specifically.

Nuclear structure data available through August 1, 1978 are compiled, and adopted level properties are given. The bulk of the data is presented pictorially for easy comparison. Experimental details, references, and additional comments, where required, are given in the text. All drawings, tables, and comments are reproduced from the computerized Evaluated Nuclear Structure Data File (ENSDF). Any additions or corrections desired by the users should be addressed to the evaluators for maintenance and updating of the computer file.

1974, Nuclear Data Sheets
The 1967 version of the Nuclear Data Sheets for A = 62 has been revised on the basis of experimental data received before January 15, 1974. In the Data Sheets experimental data are presented; in the Summary Sheets adopted values for the measured quantities, J^π-assignments, and discussions of the adopted decay and level schemes are given.
Compared to the situation in 1967, progress has been made since much new and more accurate data are available. Some problems, such as which of the two measured half-lives of ⁶²Co belongs to the ground state and what is the energy of the isomeric state, have been resolved. Other problems with conflicting or inconsistent experimental data have arisen, e.g., a small systematic difference in the values for the energies of the ⁶²Ni γ-rays, the question of whether or not ⁶⁴Zn has more than one excited 0⁺ state below 3900 keV, and others.
A first report was made on the observation of the nucleus ⁶²Ga. The reported half-life is 117.8 ms. The assignment is not yet completely certain from the quoted report. If this nucleus decays 100% to the ⁶²Zn ground state, the log ft is 3.5, which is characteristic of a 0⁺ → 0⁺ superallowed transition.
Study of the (d, α) reaction applied to <sup>50</sup>Cr and <sup>52</sup>Cr

The reactions ⁵⁰Cr(d, α)⁴⁸V and ⁵²Cr(d, α)⁵⁰V have been carried out at an incident deuteron energy of 15 MeV to investigate the structure of the low-lying levels of ⁴⁸V and ⁵⁰V in the light of shell model expectations. Excitation energies and angular distributions have been measured for states up to about 1.5 MeV. For all resolved and strongly excited levels angular momentum transfers could be assigned by comparison with DWBA calculations. For ⁵⁰V spectroscopic factors have been extracted in relative units assuming pure configurations for the transferred pair of nucleons. The results indicate the existence of seniority and configuration mixing in the level structure of the ⁴⁸V and ⁵⁰V isotopes. In both reactions some transitions show characteristic deviations from the direct reaction mechanism. These deviations cannot be reproduced by the DWBA calculations.
