Abstract

The half-lives of the 2+ and 4+ excited states in 160Dy have been measured by means of the delayed coincidence method. Using a magnetic double-lens coincidence spectrometer and a time-to-pulse-height converter coupled to a fast-slow coincidence system, the half-lives of these levels were measured to be T12(2+ → 0+) = 1.97 ± 0.04 nsT12(4+ → 2+ = 101 ± 9 ps.

The experimental ratios of B(E2; 4+ → 2+)/B(E2; 2+ → 0+) and the moments of inertia are deduced and discussed for the even rare-earth isotopes of Sm, Gd, Dy, Er, Yb, Hf, W and Os as a function of the neutron number.
