Abstract

The reactions 54,58Fe(d, α.)52,56Mn have been studied using 15 MeV deuterons, and angular distributions of outgoing α-particles have been measured up to an excitation energy of about 3 MeV and 1.3 MeV respectively.

Some unexpected deviations from the direct reaction mechanism are shown for the 54Fe(d, α)52Mn reaction, which might possibly be due to special configurations in the 1f72 shell.

Angular momenta as well as spectroscopic strengths have been determined by means of DWBA calculations. In particular an approximate relation was sought which would enable an interpretation of spectroscopie strengths even in the case of configuration mixing.

The results provide spectroscopic information about the amount of seniority and configuration mixing in the level structure of the 52,56Mn isotopes.
