Abstract

Yields of photonuclear reactions in vanadium and iron were measured by the activation method at 1.5 GeV bremsstrahlung energy and analysed with an empirical spallation formula given by Rudstam. Yields of light nuclei (20 < A < 30) were found to be much larger than expected from the systematics of spallation products with mass number A > 30. The energy dependence of the yields and the recoil energy of these nuclei investigated in a catcherfoil experiment deviate considerably from the general behaviour of spallation products. The yields of the photopion reactions 51V(γ, π+)51Ti and 51V(γ, π 2n)49Cr were measured in the energy range between 1.0 and 2.1 GeV.
