Abstract

High-spin states in 109In have been investigated using the 107Ag(α, 2nγ)109In reaction. In-beam measurements of γ-ray excitation functions, γ-γ coincidences, γ-ray angular distributions and linear polarizations and lifetimes were performed with Ge(Li) detectors to establish the level scheme. Internal conversion electron spectra have been recorded with a mini-orange spectrometer to determine the conversion coefficients of the transitions in 109In.

The level structure of 109In shows strong resemblances with the one of 111In. The properties of several levels in both nuclei are described adequately in terms of a g92 proton hole coupled to excitations of the adjacent Sn cores. However, the observation of the Jπ = 192+ isomeric state (T12 = 210 ms) in 109In cannot be reconciled with this simple picture. Negative-parity bands can only partly be explained in the usual models.
