Abstract

The (p, γ) reaction on ⁵⁸Fe, ⁶⁰Ni, and ⁶¹Ni has been used to study the radiative E1 strength in the 6–10 MeV energy region. Significant deviations from the lorentzian extrapolations have been found both in shape and absolute values of the strength functions.

Nuclear data sheets for A = 59

Experimental data pertaining to all nuclei with mass number A=59 have been evaluated. Level schemes from both radioactive decay and reaction studies are presented, along with associated tables of experimental data and adopted properties for levels and # rays. This evaluation for A=59, which considers data received by 8 February 2002, supersedes the 1993 evaluation (with a literature cutoff date of August 1993) by Coral M. Baglin, published in update mode in Nuclear Data Sheets 69, 733 (1993).
Studies of the gamma-strength function and low energy levels in 65Ga using the (p, γ) average resonance method

The ⁶⁴Zn(p, γ)⁶⁵Ga reaction has been studied in the proton energy ranges E_p = 2.0–2.9 and 3.3–4.3 MeV. Using a three-crystal pair spectrometer, gamma-ray spectra of primary transitions were measured throughout this proton energy interval in steps of about 20 keV. An average gamma ray spectrum for each energy region was formed by adding all the relevant individual spectra after adjustment due to the change of the proton energy. In the excitation energy range 0.0–3.7 MeV 50 levels, of which 20 are new, were observed. The gamma strength function was deduced from the average intensities of the primary gamma-rays. The absolute value of the strength function was found to be 5–10 times smaller than that expected from the extrapolation of the lorentzian shape of the El giant resonance.
High resolution Gamow-teller strength measurement via β-decay of 65Ge

The β⁺ decay of ⁶⁵Ge was studied by β-delayed proton and γ-ray emission. The He-jet technique was used. Altogether 28 proton groups (1.0 MeV<E_p<2.1 MeV) were observed with proton energy resolution of about 10 keV. The proton spectrum apparently consists of discrete proton groups due to a selective population of excited states of ⁶⁵Ga by Gamow-Teller β⁺ decay. The total proton branching ratio was measured to be (1.1±0.3)×10⁻⁴. Upper limit of log ft values for beta transitions associated with the observed delayed proton groups and γ-rays were calculated and an experimental beta transition strength function was obtained. The single level structure of ⁶⁵Ga was studied by the ⁶⁴Zn(p, γ)⁶⁵Ga resonance reaction in the proton energy range 1.1 MeV<E_p<2.1 MeV with 1.0 keV overall energy resolution and about 170 resonance levels were observed. Angular distribution and resonance decay measurements were done to study the nature of selected single levels and decay properties of low energy levels. The proton binding energy of ⁶⁵Ga was measured to be B_p = 3943.0±1.0 keV.

Evaluated spectroscopic data and level schemes from radioactive decay and nuclear reaction studies are presented for ⁵⁹Sc, ⁵⁹Ti, ⁵⁹V, ⁵⁹Cr, ⁵⁹Mn, ⁵⁹Fe, ⁵⁹Co, ⁵⁹Ni, ⁵⁹Cu, ⁵⁹Zn, ⁵⁹Ga, and ⁵⁹Ge. This evaluation for A=59 supersedes the earlier one by C. M. Baglin (2002Ba42) and updates for some nuclides in the ENSDF database.
Highlights of this evaluation are the following:
In ⁵⁹Fe, a new level at 568.45 keV (3/2⁻) has been added. This resolves a doublet at 570 keV, which was reflected in earlier evaluations (1983An22, 1993Ba85, 2002Ba42) and literature as well.
Conflicting spin assignments for 2153.62 keV level of ⁵⁹Co [9/2,13/2 in (α,pγ); (13/2) in (¹⁵N,4nγ); 15/2 in (p,p′γ), (7/2⁻) in (n,n′γ)] exist in the literature and additional experimental work is needed to resolve the issue.
