Levels in 71Ge studied with the 68Zn(α, nγ)71Ge reaction

Abstract

Energy levels of 71Ge below 1.3 MeV excitation energy have been studied using the 68Zn(α, nγ)71Ge reaction. Gamma-ray angular distributions and angular correlations were measured for transitions de-exciting these levels, and the results were analyzed using the statistical compound nuclear model. Spin assignments have been deduced for most of these low-lying levels, and multipole mixing ratios for the γ-decays are presented. The level structure of 71Ge is compared to a calculation based on the intermediate coupling model. The model calculations do not reproduce the experimental properties of 71Ge very well.
