Abstract

The lifetimes of fourteen levels in 53Mn have been extracted by use of the Doppler shift attenuation (DSA) method. The states were populated by the 50Cr(α, pγ)53Mn reaction at Eα = 8–9 MeV. In order to reduce the uncertainty in the lifetimes of these states, an evaluation of the stopping-power in chromium for Mn ions was made by comparing the lifetime measurements extracted by the DSA method for the 1.53 MeV state in 55Mn populated by the 52Cr(α, pγ) reaction, with an independent measurement made by resonance fluorescence.
