The decay of 124Sb to the levels of 124Te

Abstract

The decay of $^{124} Sb →^{124} Te$ was studied with curved-crystal and Ge(Li) spectrometers and with γ-γ coincidence techniques. Energy and intensity measurements on 38 γ-rays are reported. A partial decay scheme is proposed which incorporates 34 of the observed γ-rays. Levels at 2483.27 keV, 2701.78 keV and 2710.65 keV are added to the most recently published decay scheme.

Measurement of (n, p) cross sections on isotopes of Cd, Sn and Te for 14 MeV neutrons

For several isotopes of Cd, Sn and Te, cross sections for the (n, p) process have been measured by activation relative to ²⁷Al(n, α)²⁴Na. As target materials, natural Cd, Sn and TeO₂ of high purity have been used. Measurements were carried out by γ-detection using a Ge(Li) detector. For measuring short-lived activities, a pneumatic tube system was used. The neutron energy was 14.6±0.2 MeV for all activations. The results obtained for the total (n, p) cross sections show decreasing values with increasing number of neutrons for a given proton number. This trend obviously follows the behaviour of the difference of the proton and neutron separation energies, determining the competition between proton and neutron emission.
Nuclear data sheets for A = 124
1973, Nuclear Data Sheets
The 1960 version of the Nuclear Data Sheets for A = 124 has been revised based on data received before May 1973. All literature containing experimental nuclear structure data pertaining to A = 124 has been reviewed and evaluated resulting in the use of ≈200 references. Eight nuclei, In, Sn, Sb, Te, I, Xe, Cs, and Ba, are assigned as members of the 124 mass chain. Of these, only for Sn, Sb, and Te are extensive level schemes available.
Multipole mixing ratios of transitions in 124Te

Gamma-gamma directional correlation measurements were made on nine transitions in ¹²⁴Te with a NaI(Tl)-Ge(Li) detector arrangement and multichannel analysis. The multipole mixing ratios obtained were δ(646) = 0.000±0.001, δ(714) = 1.5_−0.3^+0.6, δ(723) = −3.3±0.2, δ(1437) = 3.7_−2.0^+2.7, δ(1489) = −3.4_−1.5^+0.9, δ(968) = −0.03_−0.05^+0.06, δ(1368) = −0.045±0.090, δ(1045) = 0.041_−0.041^+0.047, δ(1691) = −0.02±0.01, and δ(2091) = 0.00_−0.03^+0.02. The first δ is M3/E2, the next three are E2/M1, and the last five are M2/E1. The retardation (a factor of approximately 50) of the crossover to cascade transitions from the 2039 keV, third 2⁺ level to the second and first 2⁺ levels is essentially the same for both the M1 and E2 components. In addition, spin and parity assignments of 2⁺ were made for the 2039 and 2092 keV levels.
Energy levels of 122,124Te populated by (3He, d) AND (p, t) reactions

The ^121,123Sb(³He,d) and ^124,126Te(p,t) reactions were used to study the levels of ^122,124Te nuclei. The bombarding energies were 25 and 33 MeV, respectively. Deuteron and triton spectra were analyzed with a broad-range magnetic spectrograph. Angular distributions for states up to approximately 4 MeV of excitation in ¹²²Te and ¹²⁴Te are compared with DWBA predictions to extract angular-momentum transfer values and single-proton transfer strengths. Level energies and J^π values are compared with previous measurements.
