Abstract

The level at 7064.3 ± 0.5 KeV in 208Pb has been excited in a resonant absorption experiment by Doppler shifted γ-radiation from the 34S(p, γ)35Cl reaction at Ep = 1974 keV. Analysis of the absorption integral gives Γ = 18 ± 3 eV for the level width, assuming a 100 % ground state branch. The suitability of this technique for measuring lifetimes of nuclear bound states in the attosecond range is discussed.
