Abstract

The decay of 176Ta was studied with Ge(Li) and Si(Li) detectors. The energies and relative intensities of the gamma rays were determined; γγ and eγ coincidence experiments were performed. For the half-life of 176Ta, the value 8.08 ± 0.07 h was determined. With a coincidence experiment, the intensity of the annihilation radiation was precisely measured. From the result, it follows that 176Ta decays for 0.38 ± 0.04% by β+ decay. The measured KK + L + M + … ratio for the electron capture feeding of the 2.9196 MeV level yields for the total transition energy 3.05−0.04+0.38 MeV. The results are summarized in the decay scheme of 176Ta. Spin assignments are given where possible.
