Abstract

Alpha-particle irradiation of an enriched ytterbium target and 10,11B irradiation of a holmium target were used to populate excited states in 171Hf. Rotational bands built on the 72+ [633], 52 [512] and 12 [521] Nilsson states were followed up to levels with spins 292, 252 and 292, respectively. The observed energy levels and transition probabilities are compared with the predictions of the rotational model and with the results of a Coriolis coupling calculation.
