Abstract

The average values and the fluctuations of the excitation energy sharing in quasielastic reactions are studied in two systems at various beam energies. The measured energy spectra of uniquely identified projectile-like nuclides reveal structures which are attributed to sequential decay of primary reaction products. The centroids and the widths of these structures can be reproduced consistently by means of a Monte Carlo simulation of sequential neutron emission within an isotopic chain only if the average value and the fluctuation of the excitation energy sharing are chosen properly for different reaction channels. Significant channel dependences of this energy sharing are observed for both systems and at all bombarding energies. The excitation energy is found to be allocated in both systems mainly to that fragment which picked up nucleons.
