Abstract

Taking deformation of the average potential as the key to understanding nuclear collective phenomena, some aspects of the current status and perspectives of spheroidal, triaxial, octupole, and superdeformed nuclear shapes at low- and high-spins are reviewed with emphasis on the shell structure associated with the independent particle-motion in appropriate potentials.
