Recalculation of the O(6) → rotor transition in the IBA for the Pt-Os nuclei

Abstract

Earlier IBA calculations of the O(6) → rotor transition in the Pt-Os region have been repeated following correction of an error in the version of the computer code used. The previous calculations exhibited excellent agreement with experiment with the exception of five significant discrepancies for E2 branching ratios (four of these occurring in Kπ = 4+ bands in Os). The results of the new calculations are striking. The only changes compared to the older results are for E2 transitions between odd and even spin levels and remove most of the previous discrepancies between theory and experiment without introducing any additional discrepancies. Brief comments are included on the nature of some of the states involved.
