Structure of low-lying states by (α,α′) inelastic scattering at 25 MeV (I). 70,72,74,76Ge isotopes

Abstract

Differential cross sections were measured for elastic and inelastic scattering of 25 MeV α-particles from ^70,72,74,76Ge. Coupled-channels calculations based on the asymmetric rotor model and the vibrational model were performed for the 0₁⁺-2₁⁺-2₂⁺-4₁⁺ and 0₁⁺-2₁⁺-0₂⁺-2₁⁺-4₁⁺-3⁻ states, respectively. The asymmetric rotor model describes better than the vibrational model the even-parity excited states. A change in the nuclear structure between ^70,72Ge and ^74,76Ge is indicated by our data when comparing the angular distributions of the 0₁⁺, 2₁⁺ and 3⁻ states. An oblate to prolate shape deformation between ⁷⁰Ge and ^72,74,76Ge is consistent with our results, as deduced from the study of the 2₂⁺ angular distributions in the context of the asymmetric rotor model.

Nuclear Structure and Decay Data for A=76 Isobars

The experimental nuclear spectroscopic data for known nuclides of mass number 76 (Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ga, Ge, As, Se, Br, Kr, Rb, Sr, Y) have been evaluated and presented together with Adopted properties for levels and γ rays. With the exception of structure data for ⁷⁶Ga nucleus, significant new data have been incorporated for all the other nuclides of A=76 since the previous 1995 update in ENSDF database and NDS publication 1995Si03. No data are yet available for excited states in ⁷⁶Fe, ⁷⁶Cu and ⁷⁶Y. Decay scheme characteristics for the decay of ⁷⁶Co, ⁷⁶Ni, and ⁷⁶Y are unknown while those for decays of ⁷⁶Cu and ⁷⁶Sr seem incomplete. For ⁷⁶Ni, very little structure data are available, and for ⁷⁶Ga and ⁷⁶As, only low-spin ( $J < 4$ or so) information is available. This work supersedes the data presented in the previous (1995Si03) NDS evaluation of A=76.
Nuclear Data Sheets for A = 70
2016, Nuclear Data Sheets
Spectroscopic data for all nuclei with mass number A = 70 have been evaluated, and the corresponding level schemes from radioactive decay and reaction studies are presented. Since the previous evaluation, the half-life of ⁷⁰Mn has been measured and excited states in ⁷⁰Fe observed for the first time. Excited states in ⁷⁰Ni have been more extensively studied while Coulomb excitation and collinear laser spectroscopy measurements in ⁷⁰Cu have allowed for firm Jπ assignments. Despite new measurements, there remain some discrepancies in half-lives of low lying states in ⁷⁰Zn. New measurements have extended the knowledge of high-spin band structures in ⁷⁰Ge and ⁷⁰As. This evaluation supersedes the prior A = 70 evaluation of 2004Tu09.
Spectroscopy of <sup>74</sup>Ge: From soft to rigid triaxiality

The first heavy ion fusion–evaporation reaction study for ⁷⁴Ge has been performed through the reaction channel ${}^{70}{Zn} ({}^{7}{Li}, 2 n p) {}^{74}{Ge}$ at beam energies of 30 and 35 MeV. Previously known yrast band is extended to higher spins and five new collective bands are established. Based on comparison with the neighboring ^72,76Ge isotopes, an intermediate pattern of energy staggering $S (I)$ is observed in the γ band of ⁷⁴Ge. The collective structure of ⁷⁴Ge, including the excitation energies and transition probabilities of ground-state band and γ band, is reproduced by the state-of-the-art five-dimensional collective Hamiltonian (5DCH) model constructed from the covariant density functional. By including the ^72,76,78Ge isotopes, systematical investigation of the structure evolution in Ge isotopes is performed. Based on the systematic comparisons and analysis, the triaxial evolution with spin in ⁷⁴Ge is revealed and ⁷⁴Ge is found to be the crucial nucleus marking the triaxial evolution from soft to rigid in Ge isotopes.

Experimental data on ground- and excited-state properties for all known nuclei with mass number A = 72 have been compiled and evaluated. States populated in radioactive decay, as well as in nuclear reactions, have been considered. For these nuclei, level and decay schemes, as well as tables of nuclear properties, are given. This work supersedes the 1994 evaluation by W.-T. Chow and M.M. King (1994Ch45).
Complementary optical-potential analysis of α-particle elastic scattering and induced reactions at low energies

A previously derived semi-microscopic analysis based on the Double Folding Model, for $α$ -particle elastic scattering on $A \sim 100$ nuclei at energies below 32 MeV, is extended to medium mass $A \sim 50 – 120$ nuclei and energies from ∼13 to 50 MeV. The energy-dependent phenomenological imaginary part for this semi-microscopic optical model potential was obtained including the dispersive correction to the microscopic real potential, and used within a concurrent phenomenological analysis of the same data basis. A regional parameter set for low-energy $α$ -particles entirely based on elastic scattering data analysis was also obtained for nuclei within the above mentioned mass and energy ranges. Then, an ultimate assessment of $(α, γ)$ , $(α, n)$ , and $(α, p)$ reaction cross sections considered target nuclei from ⁴⁵Sc to ¹¹⁸Sn and incident energies below ∼12 MeV. The former diffuseness of the real part of optical potential as well as the surface imaginary potential depth have been found to be responsible for the actual difficulties in the description of these data, and modified in order to obtain an optical potential which describes equally well both the low-energy elastic scattering and induced reaction data for $α$ -particles.

2006, Nuclear Data Sheets
Nuclear spectroscopic information for known nuclides of mass number 74 (Co,Ni,Cu,Zn,Ga,Ge,As,Se,Br,Kr, Rb,Sr) with Z = 27 to 38 and N = 47 to 36 have been evaluated and presented together with adopted energies and Jπ of levels in these nuclei. No excited state data are yet available for ⁷⁴Co, ⁷⁴Cu and ⁷⁴Sr. This evaluation supersedes previous full evaluations of A = 74 by 1987Si08 and 1976Ko07, and a midstream evaluation (published in update mode) by 1995Fa23 with a literature cutoff date of May 1994. Extensive new data have been included for most nuclides in the current revision of A = 74.
