Abstract

Isobaric analogue states in 90Zr have been studied using the reactions 89Y(p, n)89Zr (all neutrons detected), 89Y(p, n)90mZr (decay product of isomeric state detected), 89Y(p, γ0)90Zr, 89Y(p, γ)90mZr (decay product of isomeric state detected) and 89Y(p, p′)89mY (decay product of isomeric state detected). It is shown that reaction cross-section measurements complement measurements on elastic scattering as a spectroscopic tool in that they are capable of revealing states of double excitation in the analogue nucleus. Comparison of the peak locations in the different reaction channels reveals energy shifts which have not yet been accounted for by theories of the reaction mechanism.
