Abstract

Strange particle production in πp collisions at 25 GeV/c is 4.0 ± 0.3 mb, approximately one event in every six. The size of this cross section implies significant exchange of particles with a mass equal to or less than ∼ 500 MeV/c2. About 34 of the cross section is due to K-pairs, and about half of these pairs have a net charge (e.g. K±Ko pairs). Copious production ofan I = 1 resonance which decays into K-pairs could account for this. Since no such resonance is seen in the K1oK1o mass spectrum, its G-parity would have to be even.
