Abstract

The conservation of isospin is applied in a statistical manner to pp annihilation at rest. From six experimentally known pionic decay modes, twelve others were calculated. The calculated and experimental average pion multiplicities and charged pion frequencies are compared. Agreement is obtained when the pp annihilation system is initially in a pure |T=1, T3=0〉 state or for an equal mixing of |10〉 and |00〉 states, if the |10〉 state proceeds directly to a |00〉 state following π emission. These results also agree with a Fermi-statistical model having Ω = 8Ωo.
