Abstract

By Monte Carlo simulation on an 183×4 lattice, we study the correlation of Polyakov loops, in order to determine the potential between fundamental and between adjoint static colour charges in SU(2) gauge theory. The evaluation is carried out for the temperatures above the deconfinement point Tc, in the range 1<TTc⩽15. We find that with increasing temparature, the ratio of the static adjoint and fundamental potentials, Vg(R,T)Vq(R,T), converges to the value 649, as predicted by leading order perturbation theory.
