Abstract

The angular distributions of 30 MeV alpha particles elastically scattered from Au, Cu, and Ni have been measured and compared to pure Coulomb scattering. A sensitive comparison of the Cu and Ni data was made by comparing the ratio of Cu to Ni from experiment to that which would be expected if diffraction scattering were the only contributing process. An absence of a significant compound elastic contribution is concluded.
