The reaction 90Zr(3He, d)91Nb at 18 MeV

Abstract

The ⁹⁰Zr(³He, d)⁹¹Nb reaction was investigated using incident ³He ions of 18 MeV. The ground-state Q-value was measured to be - 0.227 ±0.020 MeV. Deuteron spectra were obtained at 16 scattering angles between 5° and 80°. A distorted-wave analysis of the data was carried out to obtain I_p values and spectroscopic factors; j values were deduced. A comparison of these results with shell-model calculations of the low-lying states in ⁹¹Nb gave additional information about the ground-state wave function of ⁹⁰Zr. The higher excited I_p = 0, 2, 4 transitions were found to be the T_< components of the single-particle states of the next major shell ( $2 d_{32}, 2d_{32}, 1g_{72}, 3s_{12}$ ).

A study of the 90Zr(3He, t) reaction at 43.4 MeV

Measurement of the effective E5 single-particle transition densities in 89Y and 90Zr

The transition charge and current densities for the lowest E5 proton particle-hole excitation in ⁸⁹Y (0.909 MeV) and ⁹⁰Zr (2.319 MeV) have been extracted from electron scattering data. These excitations are dominated by the $π(1 g_{92}, 2 p^{−1}_{92})$ configuration. The transition densities indicate the importance of configuration mixing in the ground state of ⁹⁰Zr. Single-particle predictions do not reproduce the shape of the empirical densities indicating the need for a surface peaked core polarization correction in both the charge and current densities.
