2008, Veterinary Clinics of North America - Exotic Animal PracticeCitation Excerpt :Thyrotropin-releasing hormone and TSH stimulation tests are also used to assess hypothalamo-pituitary-thyroid axis integrity. There are several reports of thyroid assessment in reptiles in which the total T4 was measured; Table 1 lists the reported values [10,15,19,20,30–33]. Tests used to measure thyroid hormones in mammalian species are not sensitive enough to measure the relatively low levels of thyroid hormones found in reptilian blood.
