In the present paper the presence of ferritin (phytoferritin) aggregates inside the plastids of mature Nicotiana alata pollen grains is reported. Phytoferritin forms a dark mass which sometimes possesses a regular substructure with a crystalline appearance. The presence of phytoferritin aggregates could be related to the hydration and activation of pollen grains and subsequent pollen tube emission.
