The Janus-faced manifestations of homozygous familial hypobetalipoproteinemia due to apolipoprotein B truncations
2015, Journal of Clinical LipidologyCitation Excerpt :It is conceivable that these lipoprotein particles or their remnants accommodate a larger amount of apolipoprotein E (apoE) on their surface than the normal apoB-100 VLDL (or apoB-100 VLDL remnants). The presence of apoE, a high-affinity ligand for the LDL receptor,17 would facilitate the receptor-mediated uptake of these lipoproteins by the liver and by peripheral tissues. This would ensure a normal delivery of lipoprotein-derived cholesterol to the cells to maintain intracellular cholesterol homeostasis.
Lrp13 is a novel vertebrate lipoprotein receptor that binds vitellogenins in teleost fishes
2014, Journal of Lipid ResearchCitation Excerpt :Neither receptor was detected in solubilized ovary membrane protein prior to purification nor in the VtgAa/b (ligand) preparation, thus they were selectively enriched by protein-affinity chromatography. Additionally, both receptors specifically eluted from immobilized VtgAa/b using buffer containing suramin, which is known to disrupt interactions between lipoprotein ligands and their receptors (42), including Vtgs and Vtgr (43). Therefore, Lrp13 binds VtgAa/b and is dissociated from it, similar to Lr8−.
Analysis of 6-month effect of orlistat administration, alone or in combination with fenofibrate, on triglyceride-rich lipoprotein metabolism in overweight and obese patients with metabolic syndrome
2008, Journal of Clinical LipidologyCitation Excerpt :Recent investigations propose several mechanisms to support the truth of these observations. Specifically, conformation of ApoE contained on very low–density lipoprotein (VLDL) in hypertriglyceridemic states is different than that of VLDL in normotriglyceridemic conditions and seems to have greater affinity to the LDL receptor.25,26 Additionally, in normotriglyceridemic individuals there is a shorter resident time of VLDL, which results in VLDL particles acquiring less ApoE from HDL by transfer.27
